Most communities in the U.S. are privileged enough to have a steady supply of relatively cheap and safe water. This is in part due to rules and regulations that govern the water utilities that supply this water.
In response to regulations..and with an aim to protect the public’s health…the water industry formed the Water Research Foundation (WRF). The WRF funds hundreds of millions of dollars in research and policy analysis on enforcement of federal, state and local regulations, water treatment technologies, water quality, etc.
Where there is water quality research funding, there are public health researchers who benefit and can make a difference. Is all industry-sponsored research suspect? Shouldn’t more public health researchers work with these utilities to help ensure that their projects serve the greater good as much as possible?
