In case you haven’t noticed, one of my goals for this resource is to not focus only on one or two public health fields. To showcase the breadth and depth of public health, I am rotating my posts across seven or eight key disciplines.
Today’s discipline is biostatistics. Heavy sigh. I have to admit that my posts dedicated to biostatistics are the most challenging to my creativity. So, I am going to take another approach to finding some inspiration. I am going to consult with a biostatistician. Stay tuned…in about seven days…for some of those results.
BTW, I am TOTALLY open to ideas on this. How do you think I should show the impact AND excitement of this field?
Until later, here is some practical advice. A not so obvious way to find possible funding for training in this area is to look for institutional training grants. These funds are given to universities to support faculty and student development.
Here is an example from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (part of NIH): http://tinyurl.com/6znqb4w. NOTE: These are only a few of the universities and schools that have biostatistics degree programs. See the ASPH.org database to search for many more. This map is an example from one source of funding.
