In case you haven’t heard, one of the latest ways for students to learn online are via MOOCs – Massive Open Online Courses. Other than the lousy name, these courses are a great way for students all over the world to learn from the best of the best teachers, sometimes for free.

According to Wikipedia:

Massive Open Online Course (MOOC/muːk/) is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as videos, readings, and problem sets, MOOCs provide interactive user forums that help build a community for students, professors, and teaching assistants (TAs). MOOCs are a recent development in distance education which began to emerge in 2012.

One of the advantages of the MOOCs is that the offerings don’t have to be tied to anything else, e.g., a degree or certificate program. You can learn for the fun of it, to develop skills, to try online as a way to take a course, to get a head start on your degree, etc.

Here is a great resource for finding these opportunities: MOOC-list.com. It collects courses across more than 40 providers.
