How Midwifery Can Save LivesJun 20
Today’s release of The State of the World’s Midwifery 2011 report ignited discussion and debate about the role of midwives and their impact on maternal deaths. The report estimates that “Nearly 3.6 millions lives could be saved in 58 developing countries around the world with scaled-up midwifery services.” (womendeliver.org report below)
Tied to Millenium Development Goal 5, the report argues for more training and leadership roles for midwives in order for the to have an optimal impact world-wide. This solution is a great example of how different public health approaches are needed for different cultures and resources.
